Adventure Overview:

Under rumbling storm clouds, Count Strahd von Zarovich stands atop an ancient, crenelated wall of Castle Ravenloft. As fearsome lightning illuminates the sky, his caped form is silhouetted against the crimson clouds behind him. Rumbling thunder pounds the gothic castle spires. The wind’s howling increases as he turns his gaze down toward the village of Barovia, situated beneath his castle. Two glowing red irises watch the land below, seeing all.

Far below, yet not beyond his keen eyesight, a party of adventurers has just entered his domain. Strahd’s face forms the barest hint of a smile as his dark plan unfolds, an overly-long canine tooth showing briefly. He knew they were coming, and he knows why they came—all according to his plan. But a frown creases his face as well as he looks up, gazing at the roiling, blood red sky. 

A lightning flash rips through the bloody darkness, but Strahd is gone. Only the howling of the wind fills the midnight air. The master of Castle Ravenloft is having guests for dinner. And you are invited.

Curse of Strahd is a dark fantasy campaign with heavy emphasis on folk and gothic horror. It is also an unforgiving adventure where death awaits the Party around every corner if they do not tread carefully. In this reimagining and continuation of the classic campaign, you will discover a dark land full of grim fates and troubled folk plagued by a vampiric overlord, political manipulations, and hard truths. The path seems clear: kill Strahd to escape.

But…what if Count Strahd von Zarovich isn’t the worst thing in Ravenloft…?

What If You’re New to RPGs:

This campaign is full of danger and darkness, and might not be the ideal first introduction to the game for a new player. If you are new, however, don’t worry! I will take all the complexity of creating a character and learning the game and explain it in an easy-to-understand way.  You you will learn to create a character on D&D Beyond and how to play Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition in Discord, even if you are completely new.

What Players Need:

A working microphone, a free Discord account, a free profile on D&D Beyond, and ~3 hours of time you’re okay with being fun will be needed to participate in the session. A camera or webcam is encouraged for immersion, but not required. 

What the GM Provides:

Additional access to content on D&D Beyond, as well as a stream on Discord of the 3D Virtual Tabletop application, TaleSpire.

Character Creation Guidelines:

The Party will start at 1st level, but it is recommended that players know the path that their player characters will take ahead of time. This can be discussed during your Session 0, or in other words, a meeting to discuss table rules and character creation. Player character stats will be determined using Standard Array or Point Buy. If you don’t know what these are, don’t worry – it’ll all be explained!

We will discuss ideal character backstories and builds in Session 0, but it is recommended to come with at least three character concepts or gameplay arcs you would like to play. It is better to have a well-rounded party, so if two players have similar first picks, there will be second picks ready. Additionally, this campaign is known to be unforgiving and fatal at times, so in the event that your character dies and it is not an ideal situation to lorefully bring them back, it is best to have backup characters on deck.
