Waterdeep has always been a city of rumors. So many hidden merchant lords and open lords in the council have sought information corroborating clandestine lore of days long ago, when Lord Neverember secured a rich vault of gold dragons (gold pieces) for the people of Waterdeep. Yet, after the disappearance of Lord Neverember access to the vault was lost to time. Somewhere under this free-city of chaotic mercantile machinations, lies a hoard of gold… if someone can find the information to recover the keys.
Rumors have been spreading about the forces of the underworld who are looking for something called a Stone of Golorr. Somehow that item is of interest with regards to the “dragon” hoard… but that’s well above your group’s pay-grade. Tonight you all are enjoying a tankard of ale at the Yawning Portal, relaxing after a day of looking for mercenary work; its getting a little cold as winter is just around the corner.
The town of Waterdeep is a free-city up the Sword Coast. Once under the the rule of Lord Neverember who set the base rules of the city, it has since fallen to a council of Lords… and they don’t always play fair. Many merchant lords remain hidden for fear of reprisals, yet some are open-lords looking to lead the citizens of Waterdeep to a brighter day. It creates a rather weighty bureaucracy. To complicate matters there is a healthy underworld that operates in and literally under Waterdeep in the extensive sewer system. Rumors of a beholder arch-crime lord Xanathar is whispered among tavern-talks, or the presence of drow assassins… despite these ominous conversations, what is assured is the Zhentarim, a mercenary company that plays a little fast and loose, throws their weight around the city, and is in direct conflict with the Xanathar’s Guild; recently they’ve been at each other’s throats and the worry is a guild war is about to start which could endanger Waterdeep’s citizens.
Every Other Week Campaign: next game is on December 14th
UPDATE: The group has rescued a famous Ranaer Neverember, son of the former ruler of Waterdeep Lord Degult Neverember… and an innocent, both accidentally mixed up in gang violence that is plaguing the city. Unfortunately, their benefactor Volothamp, lacking the funds to pay the group, offered them a deed to a now boarded up property called Troll Skull Tavern. The group could sell the property for a quick pay day, but have instead decided to refurbish and turn it into a thriving business. Currently, they seem to be getting some interest from powerful factions all over town as their rescue of the former lord’s son is spreading through the “rumor mill”. The group is currently 2nd Level.
What You Need to Play:
I have character creation books shared on my DnDBeyond.com campaign page for players to use, including the new 2024 Player’s Handbook. Alternatively, we can make your character in Roll20 VTT.
We will use Discord server for our voice chat and to coordinate game days, and use Roll20 VTT for combats.
will use session-0 to establish your characters who start at 1st level (or current group level) and even talk about the arch-criminal overlords as there is some element of randomness there that dictates how things unfold in Dragon Heist and the following homebrew The Bloody Pieces of Jarlaxle Baenre, that will follow this adventure.
Age Limits: While we will deal with some serious subject matter, it is presented in such a way as to be age 13+.
If you have any questions about the module or want to request a certain day for your party please reach out to me through:

I recently had the pleasure of playing in a Cyberpunk Red game run by HollywoodDM (Nat), and it was an outstanding experience! HollywoodDM made the entire process incredibly smooth and enjoyable.
From the start, he created an immersive and engaging story that drew us all in. His vivid descriptions and dynamic storytelling brought the cyberpunk world to life, making it easy for us to get lost in the narrative. He was also incredibly patient and helpful, taking the time to explain the rules and mechanics in a way that was easy to understand.
What truly stood out was his ability to guide us through our first experience with the system. He provided us with a plethora of ideas and options for what our characters could do, ensuring that we felt empowered and excited to explore the game. His enthusiasm and dedication to making sure we had a great time were evident throughout the session.
Overall, GM Nat is an exceptional game master who excels at creating a beginner-friendly and immersive experience. If you’re new to Cyberpunk Red or just looking for a fantastic game master, I highly recommend playing in one of his games!
HollywoodDM is an incredible DM and very well experienced to anticipate my groups actions, and work with them on the fly. This oneshot was very fun and I highly recommend anyone reading this review to give him a shot. I know that I don’t regret playing in his oneshot, and I know that you sure won’t! And to my DM, masterfully done, masterfully played, 10 out of 10 would play again.
I’ve played every permutation of D&D since 1984, and what makes every game enjoyable is a GM focused on story and character. Nate has a wide arsenal of voices and differentiated NPC motivations and in-depth back-story, which combine to make his world-building feel full and truly “alive.”; During game sessions, his descriptions are rich, and his pace of play is neither hindered by excessive role-play, nor Spartan/without flair combat (specifically, he doesn’t pull punches in fights, which I appreciate and prefer). I’ve also found that even small clues and seemingly incidental details present themselves in all NPC interactions, many of which lead to entire other adventures, or even campaigns. He really does balance his non-combat/combat sections well, and while I’m not privy to other groups that he runs, my group of veteran players are thoroughly addicted. I highly recommend you hire him for your campaign, or one-shot (just don’t take my time slot)!
