Adventure overview
Hail and Well Met!
Hush child…do you feel it? The wrath of Hell seethes beyond the view of most mortals, but, when the tides of history and fate intermingle and wicked men and women conspire with dark forces, the wards that protect the Prime Material realm can be cast aside, and True Evil allowed to work its will upon the people of FaerÅ«n.
Join the adventure! Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus is one of the most popular modules that Wizards of the Coast has published for 5th edition D&D, and it’s easy to see why. Not only will your characters be able to explore and interact with one of the most infamous fantasy cities ever created, their path could lead them to Hell itself! Along the way they will be able to confront and (perhaps) overcome some of the most fearsome and iconic villains in D&D history, with lore going back to the game’s inception.Â
Preparation
All you need to play is a computer, access to Wi-Fi, and a microphone. Roll20 is the virtual table-top program being used for this game – D&D Beyond for building/keeping track of characters, and Zoom/Discord for communication. There’s no fee required for any of these tools, and there is plenty of help available to aid with any questions or problems you might have. Having access to your own copy of the Player’s Handbook is recommended, but once you join this game you will be able to utilize a large number of digital resources, including the PHB. In addition to the published materials, you can expect custom-made battlemaps, dungeons, and NPCs for you to interact with; this will be a unique campaign.Â
Who will like this game
Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus is generally considered to be one of the more challenging modules published for 5th edition D&D. With Hell as a potential physical destination for the adventurers, there is great potential for mortal (as well as spiritual) tragedy, and truly horrendous consequences should you fail in your quest. But the rewards for success are great, including the chance to bring about massive changes to the world of FaerÅ«n, and being able to say that you have faced and overcome the literal embodiment of evil.
All that is to say: if this is your first foray into Dungeon’s and Dragons, you may wish to consider starting out with a different campaign. However, the players at this table are all exceptionally inviting and patient, and are more than willing to help with any questions or difficulties that a novice might experience. You won’t be able to find a better group for your first game, so if you think jumping in at the deep end sounds fun, then by all means subscribe.Â
The mood of Descent into Avernus is dark, tragic, and often disturbing. It takes inspiration from George Miller’s film “Mad Max: Fury Road”, Clive Barker’s Hellraiser book series, as well as Neil Gaimen’s graphic novel The Sandman, particularly the issues involving Lucifer.Â
There are strong themes of corruption at play in this adventure, but also redemption. Those that can look evil in the face and make a bargain may find success, but not without losing parts of themselves that may haunt them forever; however, with trusted companions by your side, you just may find your way back into the light–perseverance in the face of overwhelming obstacles while retaining goodness in your soul is also a theme. Â
Character Creation
There are no restrictions for character classes or races, although keeping to the themes of the module in mind is preferred: this might not be the right game to try out your fairy eloquence bard. Please use the point-buy system for generating stats; multi-classing is permitted, but speak to the Dungeon Master before committing to a complicated build.
It’s important for your character to have a good reason for being in the area of Baldur’s Gate, a city defined by the stark differences between rich and poor. Also, it’s important to remember that D&D is a group game, so please no “Lonewolf-Batman-Dirty-Harry” characters, unless they are able to work with others. Finally, despite the grim setting, this is not a campaign for players wishing to play overtly evil/selfish characters; “edgy” is fine; murderous is not.
Gameplay
I do not back away from including the darker elements of reality in my games. This includes things such as racism, sexism, slavery, etc. To be clear: I do not include these things because I think they are “cool”. Rather, I look at them as potential obstacles to be overcome. The one real-world element that I keep out of my fantasy games is any form of sexual assault. Your characters will never encounter it (not even in Hell), and I ask that you keep it out of your backstory. I have no problem with roleplaying consensual relationships in my games, but a tasteful “fade-to-black” will keep things at a PG-13 level. Before you join the game, we will have a private chat to make sure we’re on the same page with game expectations; clear communication between us up front will help guarantee a satisfying game experience for both of us.Â
Conclusion
I love this adventure. I have run it to completion several times, and I’ve created tons of homebrewed content to enhance and expand it. Not only do I find it incredibly exciting, I’ve witnessed table after table break into tears of grief and joy as its story unfolds. Join us! Complete the table! I promise you an experience you will never forget.
Your table awaits…
Sean has a great sense of place and character. His descriptions bring you into the game, and into a dynamic world rife with unique, 3-dimensional characters and vibrant landscapes, that shift and move and respond to player actions.
I am currently playing in two of his campaigns and wish I had the time for a third!
Sean is the most thorough and experienced DM I’ve ever met. In only a short time knowing him I was blown away by his DMing and people skills.
If you can get into one of his games it’s an absolute must!
Just when you think the campaign and DnD’ing with Sean cannot get better… he surprises you. All the boxes get ticked: Great story telling, great characters, amazing voices and scene setting, all the effort into the visuals and audio, pairing with great team mates and the occasional visit from a magical cat.
And that’s just the beginning. The space for character development is astounding, you want roleplay.. you got it. You want combat, here is a dragon. You like puzzles… figure out this complex number system or play a game of wordcraft, you want love.. here is a cute blacksmith. And then he remembers things you or your characters mention. You’ll hear stories of the great deeds of previous characters. A joke from weeks before comes in to play. Friends are made and kept after campaigns.
If you have not played a game or Campaign with Sean.. you really should. It is one of the my favourite times of the week and so much fun.

The first game I signed up for with Sean as listed as 11 am on Saturday. I did not notice that it as 11 am eastern time. I live on the west coast (of the US), so that 11 am time is 8 am on Saturday. I went into the first session looking for an excuse to bail on an 8 am Saturday start time. Two years later, I'm still playing at 8 am on Saturday mornings and have signed up for a second game with Sean.
Sean has a good understanding of the rules of D&D and is very patient with new players. He is a great story teller and has a wide variety of voices he can use to voice npcs. I am definitely enjoying both games I'm participating in with Sean.
Sean has been an exceptional GM for Tundra Struck. He is a professional in all aspects of running the game, and his talents, skills, and voices are truly impressive. It's been absolutely amazing and fun every game and has been a thrilling experience from the start.
I'm still very new to Dungeons and Dragons and Sean worked with me during the session zero to prepare my character sheet and Roll20 with ease. I love his style and continue to be blown away by his ability to enhance the story and immerse the group so effectively into the game. I highly recommend Sean as an amazing GM for any campaign out there!
I have had the distinct pleasure of being in one of Sean's games and it has been a fantastic experience. I have been in the same campaign (from lvl 1) for 3 years going strong, and its due to Sean's dedication and mastery of story-telling, technical savvy, and proficiency with the rule system. Any module is lovingly personalized to the given party, and any homebrew material is full of heart.
Sean's game are in high demand and tend to form strong bonds that helps the campaign endure. Don't hesitate, and sign up while there's time!

So been playing with Sean for over a year and I have to say it has been money well spent. I really enjoy his DM style and the fact that he cleverly incorporates each player characters back story into the games. I would say his games are a good balance of combat and roleplay, I enjoy the fact that there are consequences for our characters actions be it for good or evil, there is a cost and the price will be paid (sooner or later). Sean games are engaging, and he has some creative voice work that really create atmosphere and he’s a great storyteller. I highly recommend Sean as a DM for both beginners and experienced players!

Been playing with Sean for about a month a half-now and I can say it's been an awesome ride.
As the title says, he feels professional. From the tools, to the characters, to the story progression.
He has an actor background I believe, and you can really feel that experience coming over in the acting for the characters, the voice acting, the quick minded retorts and improvisation he will throw at your witty ideas.
It's been a lot of fun, and you can tell he's having fun as well.
I started out joining the current campaign directly into a shopping session. An hilariously fun shopping session at that. Something I never expected to ever say.
Since then we've been having mixed sessions of role play and combat, lore and more lore and cool characters woven into the story, to hinder or help you. It feels like is also playing with you. Which he actually is (sometimes?) - Looking at you Archibald! And that's also great.
At the time of writing this review - we just had the most epic battle moment I've had as a DnD so far. Take that with a pinch of salt - as I'm a relatively new player... but picture this:
Giant Croc surprise attacks the party, tries to eat the barbarian and drags him down this huge swamp where no-one can see him. Barb is almost dying - the situation is dire! A member of the party throws a bag of magic dust into the swamp, rolls a 2 on dex, making that a bag with AC 21 to hit. The Ranger then proceeds to roll an exact 21 to hit the bag that explodes dust all over the swamp, and drains the entire swamp of water, leaving the Croc with no water advantage and perfectly visible and the Barb within range of the parties assistance. Can you imagine how everyone screamed in exhilaration when that arrow blew the bag? Yeah, it was nothing short of amazing.
So I hoped this review helps you out if you're looking at any of Shawn's games! Cheers! Z'
Sean, MEDM, has been the greatest DM I have played with in my time being a part of Dungeons and Dragons. Having played for years, and completed an adventure with him, Sean is my go-to DM for any of my particular needs and high expectations. Accommodating, welcoming, and always happy to play D&D, Sean embodies the concept of enjoyable gameplay. Handpicked music, customized maps, fantastic voices, and more, Sean will give you everything you're looking for in D&D and more.

Sean has an excellent sense of balance in his preparation where encounters are tense and exciting, but not so difficult that players are punished for trying unique strategies. Reasonably flexible with the rules but still has a great respect for them, which helps keeps the gameplay cohesive as well. I have never felt like we've reached a point where I've felt like we have to throw our hands in the air and go "I don't know what we're supposed to do," no matter how bad the situations might be.
From a roleplay perspective, Sean excels at both the presentation of the game and in his improvisational skills. Sean rarely seems unprepared for a question or an idea the player has and manages to give every character a fantastic sense of person. Sean also does an exceptional job of spotlighting the player characters both in roleplay and in encounters, and is maybe the only DM I would have tolerated two back-to-back shopping episodes with. Highly recommend for anyone who wants a spectacle for their campaign.
Immersive worlds, believable characters, story centered around the party. It is impossible to improve upon Sean as a DM. He is an actor that brings all of his talents to the game. That alone isn't enough. A single character does not make a game. Add to that immersive worlds that center around the players and you have an experience that cannot be beat. Whether you are a new player or have been adventuring for years, you will LOVE every moment!

I've been playing games with Sean for 3 years now and our games are always one of the highlights of my week. If you have the ability to join one of his games do it, you won't regret it. I have made so many friends and good memories at Sean's tables. He will bring you through a gamut of emotions, joy, fear, sadness, relief, and awe, that will have you so invested in the games you'll be counting the days in between sessions. Sean's use of accents and voice work along with background music and eloquent descriptions will weave you into the tapestry of his works. Honestly if you can play in one of his games give it a try, absolutely worth it.
Sean is a consummate professional. He comes very prepared and the whole experience is immersive from start to finish with music, voices, maps and all! He also creates a safe welcoming space for all, with utter patience for some of us newer or less experienced in gaming. Highly recommend Sean!!

Sean, is a true professional. His natural Charisma and Dynamic personality make the game an experience. Every session is memorable and exciting. He has an innate ability to know his audience and get everyone at the table personally invested in the campaign. The best DM I have had the pleasure playing with. "Highly recommend him as a DM" for anyone who wants to be transported for a few hrs into a remarkable world that is so full of charcters and meaning.
