About

Well hello there. I’m Robin. I’m glad you have decided to take a look at my profile page. You can find some more information about me here. If there is anything I forgot, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Who am I?

I am Robin, 39 (he, him, his). I am currently living in NYC where I fill my spare time with reading and playing board games, MTG and various ttrpg’s.

What kind of experience do I have?

I started running games back in 2002, so I have been doing this for a while. My first time as a professional DM was in 2018, although I mostly ran in person games in NYC then. I have been running weekly online games since 2017. I also run convention games at smaller local conventions and Gen Con.

Most of my experience has been with various editions of D&D. Since 2016 75% of what I run is 5e. I also have extensive experience with World of Darkness games, Pathfinder and various other systems. I will include a list at the end of this bio. I am always willing to set up a one-shot or a campaign in any of these systems/settings.

What is my DM’ing style?

I like to keep a nice balance between roleplay and combat. First and foremost I like to build a story with my players. Incorporating the backstories of the PC’s is thus one of my favorite things to do as it makes the story of any campaign more personal and entertaining.

What do I value at my table?

Firstly, it is important to me to create an environment that is safe and welcoming to all players.
Secondly, there is nothing I enjoy more than running a game that my players truly enjoy, so I always welcome feedback, constructive criticism and any communication on expectations or desired developments in the story.

What tools do I use?

Discord is my go-to app for running the actual sessions, combined with a VTT. I have access to Foundry. Fantasy Grounds, AboveVTT and DnDBeyond Maps. For d&d 5e (or the newly released 2024 edition) I prefer to use DnDBeyond for character creation. I have full accounts on all these VTT’s so players will not have to purchase anything. At most they will need to make a free account.

For worldbuilding I make use of Incarnate, Dungeonfog and World Anvil.

I also tend to use AI generated images in my games. I try to use ethical AI generators such as Mythweaver. If this doesn’t sit well with you, just let me know and I will refrain from using these images in your games.

What are some of my favorite books, settings and movies?

I am a huge fan of heroic fantasy. As such, Dragonlance is by far my favorite D&D setting. I also enjoy some grimdark in my gaming. I play both 40k and Kill Team, and so I also like running the various Warhammer rpg’s.

As for novels, I like most books by Raymond E. Feist, Tolkien’s work and Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time.  All of these are counted among my favorites.

I have a soft spot for classic movies from the 80’s and 90’s. Ghostbusters, Back to the Future and the original Jurassic Park are the feel-good movies I turn to when I am feeling a little down. This of course doesn’t mean I don’t like current movies and shows. I enjoy many of the new animated fantasy shows such as Arcane, The Dragon Prince and Vox Machina.

I used to like superhero movies and shows, but like many others, I am kind of burned out on those right now.

The promised list of games I have run before (in no particular order):

  • D&D (all editions from Ad&D 2nd ed. to the newly released 2024 edition)
  • Pathfinder
  • Many d20 system variants such as D20 modern, Stargate, Babylon 5
  • World of Darkness (both classic WoD and the Chronicles of Darkness): Vampire, Mage, Werewolf, Demon, Changeling
  • Roll and Keep System: Legend of the 5 rings, 7th Sea
  • GUMSHOE system: Night’s Black Agents, Trail of Cthulhu, Timewatch
  • Call of Cthulhu (5th, 7th ed.)
  • 2d20 system: Star Trek, Conan
  • The One Ring (1st ed.)
  • Warhammer Fantasy RPG (2nd, 4th ed.)
  • Wrath & Glory
  • Imperium Maledictum
  • Deathwatch
  • Shadowrun (3rd, 4th, 5th ed.)
  • Earthdawn
  • Exalted (1st, 2nd ed.): Solar, Lunar, Dragonblooded, Sidereal
  • Scion (1st ed.) Hero, Demigod, God
  • Alien
  • Cyberpunk Red
  • Mutants and Masterminds (2nd ed.)
  • FATE system (Dresden Files)

As you can see, I have experience with quite a number of games. If you want a Dm for any of these games, look no further. If what you are looking for isn’t on the list, also just contact me. I am always looking forward to learning new systems.
